Jack H Goaslind, Jr. was a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1978 to his death. He was the seventeenth general president of the Young Men organization of the church from 1990 to 1998. Goaslind was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jack H Goaslind, Sr. and Anita Jane Jack. He was a missionary for the LDS Church as a young man, serving in the Western Canadian Mission. In choosing to serve a mission, Goaslind passed up a chance to train for the Olympics with the United States Ski Team, having been an avid skier since childhood. After his mission, he graduated from the University of Utah and became a vice president with Affiliated Metals, Inc. Prior to his involvement with the Young Men organization, Goaslind was a bishop, stake president and a Regional Representative of the Twelve Apostles. In 1972, he was called as the second counselor to Young Men general president Robert L. Backman
